So, you have never worn make-up and you have vowed never to?… well your wedding day should be the exception! When properly applied, make-up not only completes what is likely to be the most expensive dress you have ever worn, but it also creates the ideal look for video and photography, a lifetime memory of your special day.

Why do you need make-up?

  • Return balance to the face
  • Maintain a matte and natural look for photos
  • Bring out the best of your facial features
  • Create a suitable photography canvas, through the interplay of light and dark shadows.

How can you find a make-up artist?

  • Testimonials from friends and relatives
  • Referrals from satisfied clients
  • Schools specializing in the teaching of make-up techniques
  • Spa and Beauty Salons
  • Classifieds

What should you look for in a potential make-up artist?

  • Ask about their training. They should be certified by a reputable school or recognized make-up artist
  • Ask for sample of their work. Good make-up artists should have “before” and “after” looks of different modes of make-up. This will show their ability to replicate different modes of make-up. Daytime outdoor make-up should not look the same as daytime indoor, nor should daytime make-up look like evening make-up.
  • A trained make-up professional should be able to work with any type of make-up. If they tell you they cannot work with the product, for any reason other than incorrect shade for your skin tone, then you should be looking elsewhere
  • Ability to do all aspects of make-up work such as eyelash extensions, correcting problem features such as prominent birth marks, freckles etc.

How long in advance should you book your make-up artist?

  • Two months is generally adequate. However, if you are the really organized type, two to six months before. If you do book 6 months early, then please be sure to re-confirm two months before the big day.
  • Always confirm details of where the make-up is being done. Are you going to the make-up artist or is he/she coming to your home. Give or get detailed directions. Exchange phone numbers including cell phone.

Do you need a trial?

  • A trial is recommended. You want to be sure that you are comfortable with the look that you will have on the day.
  • It also makes for much smoother run on the day, since the make-up artist will know which colours he/she should use.
  • In addition, you can include your eyebrow preparations during the trial, since waxing, plucking or shaving should not be done on the day.
  • Note: eyelash extensions should be done one day earlier or it will mean add-on time to the make-up session
  • A professional make-up artist will advise you on “the night before the big day” beauty treatment

What about costs?

  • Professional bridal make-up at today’s rates can range from as low as TT$150.00 to as much as TT$1200.00 depending on the reputation of the make-up artist
  • The trial can start from TT$125
  • The cost of other bridal party members’ make-up on the day would be less than that of the bride.
