Top 4 New Year’s Resolutions for the Newly Engaged
By: Kassie Hernandez
Wedding bells are in the air – congrats to all our newly engaged couples! Here are a few New Year’s Resolutions to make your journey towards the big day an even smoother one.
Don’t sweat the small things: So he uses the washroom and leaves the toilet seat up as if it were illegal to put it down. Her make-up and toiletries are strewn haphazardly all over the bathroom counter, every time she has to get ready – why? If you are living together before the wedding, it’s important to be cognizant of each other’s space and resolve not to sweat the small issues. Look at the bigger picture…you’re with your person!
Plan Weekly Date Nights: Life can get busy; but wedding planning is full throttle! You’ve got to find the perfect wedding vendors, edit that guest list, gently tell mom that the entire tribe of extended family tanties aren’t invited, but wait…in the midst of it all, have you been making time to spend actual quality time with your significant other? Don’t let the hustle and bustle of wedding planning take away from what got you there in the first place. Set aside a weekly date night to spend significant time with your fiancé(e). One rule: No wedding planning talk!
Fight Fairly: Let’s face it, it’s not always going to be rainbows and kisses, you will have disagreements. There will be times when you want to declare full on Spartan war with the apple of your eye. Be sure to always listen not to respond, but to hear what your sweetheart is saying and keep an open mind. Put down those boxing gloves, no one has time for a yelling match, talk it out, listen and communicate to resolve, not to fight.
Cook Together: The couple that cooks together stays together! Corny much? Maybe, but it works! Choose a recipe to explore, grab a glass of wine, put on some music and enjoy working with your partner in creating a delicious meal! This is great practice for improving those co-operation skills that you both will need in marriage.
